Parwarish: When Young Love Meets Adulthood, Its a Messy Place (2025)

Amal is in a fix, she probably wishes she would not know what she knows, Maya is reeling from the pain of Wali’s wrath and Wali, dear Wali, is experiencing heartbreak in ways all those who;ve known heartbreak can well imagine. Parwarish is your double dose of emotional roller coaster when young love meets adulthood all too soon and everything you know of the wordl, turns upside down, in a matter of moments.

Parwarish: When Young Love Meets Adulthood, Its a Messy Place (1)

But first to the scene that literally made us sit on the edge of our seat, do a double take and wish for the calm in the storm, yes you guessed it, it was Wali, Waleed and Maya in the lab, with Waleed being the univited third.

The scene was not only well-executed visavis storytelling, with Maya in the right place with the wrong person, due to an understandable misunderstanding, but also, the subsequent meltdown of emotions; the pain that Amal, Maya and Wali experienced, and the toxicity that Waleed emitted, couldn’t have been choregraphed and performed better. Maya, horrified and shocked, Wali, even more horrified and shocked, unforgiving and raging, Amal, upset, yet caring for Wali’s wellbeing and Waleed, now even more defiant and hell-bent on revenge. Parwarish just showed us how young people often navigate heartbreak, with a storm raging inside and a calm exterior at home, before family – inhabiting two seperate worlds, one independent of the other.

In shwoing us this snapshot of teen lives, the creators are smart enough not to call out any party, teens or parents for getting it wrong. It’s just life, and life is often tough. growing up is tough, and often, one has to live through all the emotions before coming out on the other side.

What do they say, if you haven’t loved, have you lived at all? Maya and Wali are living testament of just that.

Onwards to Amal who is battling her own sea of emotions. She is th eonly one in the houshold (other than Jahangir) who knows that Wali’s admission was no coincidence or a reflection of his academic prowess – to carry the burden of that knowledge is a crushing burden for someone as upright and honest as Amal. Add to that, the messy lives of Maya and Wali teamed up with Amal’s compassionate nature and you have a young girl who has to keep it together – smashing the coffee mugs into a thousand pieces moment was to be expected after all.

But is Amal in love with Wali too? Audiences are asking the question. And the GenZer in us cries out that we want to keep this one purely platonic, purely cousin bond and purely all heart. We hope that’s the story though Amal is certainly invested in Wali’s wellbeing and perhaps, the mind shouts out that for Parwarsih to truly bear the GenZ Flag, it becomes critical that this cousin bond is respected.

Onwards to Pannah and Mahnoor’s daughter in-law moments. The two are pitted opposite each other in their demeanour; one is rational, independent minded, yet not toxic while the other is giving, traditional and totally bought into teh joint family household. Both characters resonate with audiences for the way they approach their circumstances. And Jahangir, the grown man who cannot stand up to his mother, despite his years also cuts a familiar mold in a joint family household we all know too well.

But the charater who has all of our heart is Maya. Her life battles are monumental for a young teen who just wants to study and become a doctor. She is landed with a fiance who is crooked in all the wrong ways, a father who is hell-bent on getting her married to the same man, and a socio-economic position in life that keeps her trapped in this tug of war. For all the Maya’s watching, we hope she is able to crawl out of this one with her sanity intact. Maya’s mother’s advice, that it is her education that will save her, was a welcome and heartwarming reassurance we needed to hear. For now, a fiance like Waleed is enough to terrify any young girl who dreams of being independent and have a career, Maya’s battle is uphill and she will certainly need all the luck and support she can get.

Where Parwarish gives us super intense moments, it also brings a smile to our face, when dada pacifies dadi and attempts to feed her an orange, when dadi reflects on the positives of Pannah and feels guilty about scolding her, when she calls Jahangir to complain about Mahnoor, and the cherry on top, Sameer having a laugh over Wali’s unsuccessful love story, while attemting to save Aniya from the wrath of the home-made panjeeri laddus and patiently explaining to dadi how they might not have been the best idea.

Add to this, the pignant conversation between Aniya and Amal about expectations and courage and Parwarsih has packed in enough conversations to carry us over to the next episode.

Drop us a comment if you’re still thinking about Maya and her predicament, Wali’s heartbreak or if Sameer’s off the bat reactions havenyou laughing out loud! Or is it the new Parwarish OST Guzaarishein that has you wrapped in a warm hug, just like Wali’s kind words (and hug) to Pannah!
